AI beyond the hype – CMS tools to speed up content operations
Jaron Ghani, Innovation Director, and Elizabeth McCarthy, Head of Campaigns and Digital Communications
Numiko and University of Oxford 🇬🇧
AI gets a lot of hype, but using it safely and integrating it into existing workflows is a persistent challenge. In this session, University of Oxford and Numiko will showcase how they’ve utilised AI tools to drastically ease the workload required for their content migration, and how these tools can help free up teams by handling CMS ‘busywork’ to let them focus on where they can really add value as content professionals.
University of Oxford’s content team faced a huge workload for their upcoming website replatforming. As the ‘front-of-house' for the oldest and arguably most prestigious University in the world, www.ox.ac.uk has a vital remit to showcase and inform. Its content governance and compliance requirements are extremely complex, especially when considered within the context of the wider digital estate of over 800 subsites. Making the most of a once-in-a-decade redesign opportunity also meant an enormous undertaking of content auditing, restructuring and rewriting, to avoid carrying over the imperfections of the past.
To mitigate this challenge, Numiko has been developing a suite of AI modules for the Drupal CMS which automate a range of the most time-consuming tasks for content teams. Crucially, these tools have been designed so their output is fully reviewable and editable, with a human always ‘in-the-loop’ approving before publication. This talk will showcase these tools, share lessons learned from their implementation, and provide key principles for using AI effectively for content operations.
