Delete it all and start again? How to make a better intranet

Dave Musson, Digital Communications Officer

University of Warwick πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

Intranets often grow unwieldy, and starting over can feel risky. At the University of Warwick, one team tackled a complete overhaul with honesty and purpose. This session shares how they audited legacy content, involved users, collaborated with colleagues and rebuilt a more inclusive and useful intranet - all without extra budget or external support.

Key takeaways

  • Learn how to use data and user research to audit and redesign your intranet.

  • Identify what content to keep, change or delete for a leaner, more effective site.

  • Discover how to collaborate with colleagues across functions, even with limited resources.

Dave Musson (he/him) is a familiar face in UK Higher Education communications. He led on social media at the University of Warwick, where he also co-chaired the CASE Europe Social Media Conference, and presented at CASE Europe’s Annual Conference (CEAC).

He then moved to Natives where he created and ran The Native - a hub of written and podcast content aimed at higher education marketers - and spoke at the 2018 editions of ContentEd and CEAC, before a stint leading on content and marketing for The Ambassador Platform.

Dave returned to Warwick as part of the team behind the Warwick Award, before joining their Department of Mathematics as Digital Communications Officer.

Outside of work Dave listens to and plays loud guitar music, writes scary stories, runs a Stephen King-themed YouTube channel, and generally clings on for dear life as a parent of two. He also has a really annoying dog.
