Content planning lite: a gateway to better planning for devolved web content in universities

Maurice Ryder (he/him), Head of Web Content and Web Content Strategist and Cal Doyle (he/him), Web Content Editor at University College Cork

Many universities operate in a devolved model. Getting site owners and builders to plan their sites effectively can be a big challenge and leads to unsuccessful and lengthy website projects.

In this session, Maurice and Cal will talk about content planning lite – an easy-to-follow six-step process that allows even the most inexperienced website owners to effectively plan their website content for greater success.

Takeaways:

  • Any content planning is better than no content planning

  • Fundamental content planning principles can be introduced even to inexperienced website owners and moderators

  • Use existing productivity tools to drive your content planning operations in a devolved content ops organisation

Bio

Maurice Ryder has 20 years’ experience of managing higher education websites. Maurice has been part of the UCC website team since 2004, overseeing several “big-bang” web redesigns over the years. In 2017 he took up the role of Web Content Strategist and over the last five years, he has slowly brought a modicum of order to the chaos of web content operations in one of Ireland’s leading universities.

When he’s not immersed in the world of web content, Maurice likes to spend time with his husband of ten years. Maurice is a self-proclaimed “massive nerd” and is more than happy to discuss all things Star (both Trek and Wars), Pratchett and Tabletop gaming!
